| Since its founding in 1966, Brandston Partnership Inc. has played a leading role in the lighting industry. For more than 35 years, we have created and executed lighting for some of the world’s best-known and best-loved spaces. In the process, we have helped set industry standards and increased public awareness of effective lighting design.
We established our reputation early on with several significant projects, including exhibits at the Expo ’67 in Montreal, Canada, and Expo ’70 in Osaka, Japan; the Pan Am Terminal expansion at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York; and the Summit Sports Arena in Houston, Texas. In the 1970s, BPI grew in reputation as well as in the scope of the projects we worked on. Some of these include the National Aquarium at Baltimore, Maryland; the University of Pennsylvania master plan; the Carlyle Hotel in New York; the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (still ongoing) in New York; and numerous spaces and exhibits in the American Museum of Natural History. During this decade, BPI gained a reputation as among the best lighting design firms in the world. We enhanced our reputation in the 1980s with several significant projects, including Macy’s flagship store in Manhattan; the TRW Corporate Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio; the Palace Hotel in New York; and the Battery Park City esplanade in New York City. It was in the 1980s that we participated in our highest-profile project. We are proud to have worked on the restoration of the world’s most recognizable symbol of freedom, the Statue of Liberty. The success of the design is evidenced in its numerous nighttime images seen the world over – from postcards to the silver screen. The technical challenges were daunting, but we met them with ingenuity and creativity. For example, we worked with General Electric to develop a new metal halide lamp that changed the lighting industry and the practice of lighting built environments, forever. Since 1990, we have continued our tradition of creating excellent designs throughout the world. We’ve illuminated some of the world’s most recognizable towers and landmarks, including the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lampur and Cheung Kong Center in Hong Kong. We’ve revealed artwork in exhibits such as the Fossil Hall and the Biodiversity Hall in the American Museum of Natural History and the Pylons at Battery Park City in New York. And we’ve crafted light into the landscape in projects such as Bryant Park in New York City and the Oklahoma City National Memorial. Since our founding, we have completed more than 3000 projects worldwide. Currently, we have several major projects in development, including the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Independence National Mall, and Toronto International Airport. |
